The news of Kevin Keegan’s passing has left a heavy cloud over Tyneside. Here at Geordie Gifts, like every single fan in black and white, we are completely heartbroken.
Kevin wasn't just a player or a manager; he was the beating heart of Newcastle United. At a time when the city and the club needed lifting, he arrived and didn't just bring success, he brought hope, pride, and an undeniable level of humility back to the Toon. He understood us, and we adored him for it.
To put into words what King Kev meant to this city is almost impossible, but we penned this short poem to try and capture just a fraction of his legacy:
They say never meet your heroes I say listen to this instead,
Because if I followed that rubbish I'd have never met King Kev,
He was more than a hero he single handedly united our club,
Gave us hope and restored pride in this city that we love,
From bairns to grown men, lads & lasses in black & white,
This legend was adored by a whole nation and Geordies alike,
The 5 nil against Man U or waiting in line to meet crowds after a show,
This man is responsible for so many happy memories, More than he'll ever know.
He did it with passion and a level of humility that's hard to understand,
So thanks for everything Kev!! We'll forever be...
